A good cooked breakfast helped provide the necessary energy and legs soon warmed up.

Was really pleased that left knee was not too sore. (Bike fit booked for 17th May which should help with this). Had used a freeze spray on it the previous night and it has been settling down Ok when not under stress.

Found getting up the hills is getting easier. Mostly a benefit of the core strengthening exercises – which in turn give you the right psychological mindset to tackle them.

Soon the journey became more familiar. A nice drop down into rugby woods before climbing upto and crossing the A47.

Focus was on getting to Cranoe after which the road becomes flatter as it cuts through. Before that was a drop and climb out of Glooston. Again views of stunning countryside from the top make the climb that little bit more rewarding.

Crossing the A6 just outside Great Bowden I noticed my front tyre felt springy and on checking the pressure had dropped. Pumped back up as rough surface on some lanes, and a couple of cattle grids probably hadn’t helped.

Route back was via the steeper hill out of Great Bowden (Bec’s decision) which has beaten me before, but not on this occasion. Later analysis showed this was the steepest gradient of all at 14%.

Easy run home to find front tyre again springy. Had been a new tube in before the ride so need to investigate the cause.

Bikes washed and chain lubed. Shower followed by roast beef dinner at parents. yum!

The long descent into Oakham of the previous day was the long climb out of Oakham to start the day.

[2

post-26","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-biking
["GET
